Annual Catholic Appeal Tops Goal 2nd year in a row!
Since Newman is a major beneficiary of the ACA, we thought you would be happy to hear the good news!

Springfield, January 18, 2008

2007 Annual Catholic Appeal tops $2.9 million
Highest return since 1998

Springfield -- The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA), the major annual charitable fund drive for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield had its most successful campaign in nearly a decade in 2007 with a total collected of $2,932,756, exceeding the 2006 campaign by $10,000.

Springfield Bishop Timothy A. McDonnell was pleased that for the second year in a row the ACA exceeded its goal, "my sincere thanks and appreciation to the generosity of the people of the Diocese of Springfield in response to our needs. My pledge is that I will always use the resources made available to the diocese as a good Gospel steward."

Thirty-two parishes exceeded their individual goals, earning their parish communities rebates totaling more than $190,000. In total, more than 26,000 donors participated in this year's campaign. The average gift was $107. .

This year 43 agencies and ministries will receive funding. Included are two new grants, one for $18,000 to Bethlehem House, an Easthampton based Catholic pregnancy resource center, and a $1500 grant to help fund spiritual outreach to inmates at local correctional facilities. A complete list of 2007 ACA allocations is available on-line at www.diospringfield.org under the "Annual Catholic Appeal" heading.

Over the course of its 48-year history, the annual appeal has raised in excess of $93 million. The 2008 ACA weekend will be April 26/27.

Fr Doug is Looking for a Sign!

"Looking for a Sign" Fund goes over $6,000
Amherst, Monday, 25 July 2007

Just the other day, Fr Doug's own brother couldn't find the Newman Center because there's no sign out front!

Every day, we hear from folks who have had a hard time finding
us. Even students, faculty and staff of the University often don't
know what the building with the statue over the front door is.

But that's changing soon because the "Looking for a Sign"
fund is $6,123 towards our goal of $16,000.

Special thanks go to the parishioners of St. Cecilia's Church in Wilbraham MA and their pastor Fr. Joe Soranno. So far they
have raised $5,378. St C's (Fr Doug's old assignment) are
really coming threw for Newman.

If you would like to donate to the fund right now, click here to
enter our secure on-line gift page. Just make sure you specify
"Sign Fund" in the 'Additional Comments or Instructions' box at the bottom of the on-line form.
