Graduate Student and Young Professional Group

The Newman Graduate Student and Young Professional Group facilitates spiritual, social, and service events for area Catholic graduate students and young professionals. Our events include faith discussions, food drives, outdoor sports, picnics, bowling, and dinners. To join our email list write Katie McNamara newmangsyp@gmail.com

A few GSYP members host Saturday Night Life on the 4th Saturday of the Month. Contact Katie if you'd like to be part of the hosting group. But everyone's welcome to come, have fun. A family-friendly film begins at 6:15 pm. An edgier film begins around 8:15 pm. Pizza, soda. Games. Woo-hoo.

See also Women of God, a UMass graduate student-initiated discussion group that meets Mondays, 7-8 pm. The group is on Christmas break and will be returning Monday, February 2, 2009 from 7-8 pm in the Newman library. We will be listening to portions of an entertaining and upbeat lecture by Christopher West titled "Woman: God's Masterpiece, Understanding and Living the Feminine Genius" and then conversing about them directly afterwards. West builds on Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body and discusses the nature and dignity of women and why we are God's Masterpiece. NO PREPARATION READING NEEDED! All women are welcome. The group tends to be a mix of ugrad, grad, and extended community members. Facilitator: UMass graduate student Cecily Sharko - email csharko@nsm.umass.edu. Staff: campus minister Chris Clark.

Let's get together! Quite a few graduate students participate in the 10:30 am. Sunday Mass. After Mass, some head for the cafe, grab a cuppa Joe, and pull up a chair. (Look for the boisterous group of twenty- thirty- and forty-somethings - with a few children). We're relaxed.
